Your subconscious mind is like a huge memory bank, with virtually unlimited capacity. It never sleeps, never rests and is always on duty controlling our heartbeat, circulation of blood, and regulating digestion. It controls all the vital processes and functions of our body and is also aware of all our lifetime situations. The subconscious mind works through memory during wakefulness and through dreams at night. It is awake during the day, working in the conscious mind making records for it, and awake during sleep looking after the functions of the heart, lungs, and so forth, of the human engine, and also acting like a manager-operator of the mental dream-movies in dreamland.
A child raised in an environment of judgment, and fear may grow up believing the world is a fearful place. This information can be retrieved by the conscious mind when it perceives a need to defend itself for survival. The subconscious mind is the protective reactive feeling mind, but not necessarily rational. So when the mind perceives that the environment is safe and supportive, the cells are preoccupied with the growth and maintenance of the body. In stressful situations, cells forego their normal growth functions and adopt a defensive 'protection' posture. The body's energy resources normally used to sustain growth are diverted to systems that provide protection during periods of stress. Simple growth processes are restricted or suspended in a stressed system. Chronic stress is debilitating for its energy demands interfere with the required maintenance of the body, and as a consequence, can lead to disease
These unconscious behavioral guidance systems are continually furnishing suggestions through the day about what to do in the next situation. Your subconscious can make a snap decisions between the unfamiliar choices possible. The subconscious mind stores all of your previous life experiences, your beliefs, your memories, your skills, and uses the information gained to bring solutions to our problems. These solutions are conveyed via the conscious mind like an image or a movie which may influence, or control our reactive behavior. However the subconscious mind has the habit of taking everything literally. If we keep on thinking that we will never succeed in a particular venture, it will most likely block all positive energy flow needed to succeed. These results of negative energy will show up in life as failures or chronic poor health.
We need to eliminate these erroneous beliefs to our subconscious mind by the repetition of positive thoughts, and by visualizing happy endings. Just as your conscious mind can be thought of as the gardener, planting seeds, your subconscious mind can be thought of as the garden, or fertile soil, in which the seeds germinate and grow. Set aside some quiet moments and do a few simple positive affirmations. Repeat your affirmation over and over–loudly, at first, to command the attention of your thoughts; then more softly, to command their interest; then whisperingly, as if coaxing also the cooperation of your subconscious; then mentally only, drawing your subconscious thoughts and tendencies into your act of will. Then, finally, in deep inner silence, offer your resolution up to the Superconscious, to your higher, soul-nature.
The Superconscious, by contrast, represents a much higher degree of awareness. Indeed, it is the true source of all awareness. The conscious and subconscious minds filter that higher awareness, by merely stepping it down like the transformer that converts a high voltage to a lower and makes it available to our homes. When this Superconscious intuition is developed, it can instantly feel all that is lying hidden in his subconscious mind, and all past experiences of former incarnations. Superconsciousness works first in the subconscious mind and then in the conscious mind, without becoming entangled with them. This is where the practices of meditation and affirmations help to raise us above are reactive processes. As we seek to understand our Divine natures by practicing inner self-awareness. Our false beliefs fade away as when the Sun dissolves the nights darkness. Our vitality returns and the inner joy that has always been ours returns anew.
